Nike House of Innovation 002 - Store Designer

As a Store Designer for Nike’s House of Innovation 002, located as part of an elite series of flagship stores in London, Shanghai, and Paris, I played a crucial role in the architectural design and execution of this state-of-the-art retail space. My involvement spanned from initial concept design to post-completion oversight, working closely with a small, specialized team of three, including my manager who was also engaged in the design process.

Key Responsibilities and Achievements:

Architectural Design and Implementation:

Designed secret innovative design and experiences projects for VIP visitors within the store.

Installations and Layout: Designed and refined the architectural layout to optimize customer flow and enhance the overall shopping experience. This included detailed planning for installations and vertical circulation elements to ensure smooth and intuitive navigation throughout the store.

Finishes and Materials: With the team, selected and coordinated architectural finishes such as flooring materials, paint schemes, and ceiling treatments. Ensured that all finishes aligned with Nike’s brand aesthetics and contributed to the store’s innovative and dynamic atmosphere.

Coordination with External and Internal Teams:

Architectural and Engineering Collaboration: Worked closely with the architect of record and their engineering team to translate design concepts into functional, structural realities. Managed the integration of complex elements such as staircases and elevators, including on-site coordination and troubleshooting.

Vendor and Construction Management: Monitored the construction process to ensure that design specifications were adhered to, liaising with construction companies to resolve any issues and ensure timely project delivery.

Digital Architecture and Systems:

Screen Design and Installation: Led the design and installation of digital screens, including a landmark 14-meter high display. Developed robust systems for supporting and integrating these screens within the store’s architecture, working with both external technology vendors and internal design teams to achieve a seamless integration.

Systems Development: Oversaw the development of physical systems to support digital screens, ensuring stability and reliability for high-traffic display areas.
Integration of Graphic and Experience Design:

Bridging Disciplines: Acted as the key liaison between graphic design and architectural implementation. Ensured that the graphic elements and experiential features were cohesively applied within the architectural framework, enhancing the immersive nature of the store environment.

Project Lifecycle Management:

From Concept to Delivery: Engaged in all phases of the project, from initial sketch design through to final delivery and post-completion evaluation. Conducted regular site visits to oversee the construction process, verify adherence to design specifications, and address any emerging challenges.

Post-Delivery Oversight: Conducted thorough inspections and follow-ups after store opening to ensure that all design elements were functioning as intended and to address any issues that arose during the initial operational phase.
This role demanded a high level of independence, innovative problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage complex design and construction processes while maintaining a strong focus on Nike’s brand vision and customer experience.
